SOUTH AFRICA NATIONAL EXPO

Long Ago Began the Flow
More than one thousand years ago, the chasm that existed amongst the great civilization in China and another that existed in Africa was bridged when Chinese traders made regular visits to trade with the highly sophisticated people of Mapungubwe in Southern Africa. For many hundreds of years a chasm again appeared but it cannot be denied that the history of trade between our nations is not at all new or recent. But today, it seems that a bridge did indeed fly to span our Continents. 10 years ago, out of a vision, President Nelson Mandela, the then leader of the new South Africa turned a new page on the development of bilateral relationship which continues under the leadership of President Thabo Mbeki. The two countries have been warmly embracing each other since then, expanding business and cultural exchanges that jumpstart their know-how and their economies.
From the beginning of October 2008 ambitious entrepreneurs from South Africa will be in China, in search of their golden opportunities.
In this past 10 years, bilateral trade volume has increased from 1.5 billion USD to 14 billion USD. In the year of 2007, China was ranked as South Africa's 5th largest export and 2nd largest import markets while total bilateral trade amounted to approximately 13 billion USD. China has also set up more than 80 companies in South Africa with an estimated investment value of 200 million USD.
As a prominent financial and trading hub in China and Asia, Hong Kong has attracted a lot of prominent South African companies to its shores. In the year of 2007, total trade between South Africa and Hong Kong amounted to approximately 1,274 billion USD.
To celebrate the 10th anniversary of diplomatic relations between South Africa and China, Hong Kong, Beijing and Shanghai are right now gearing up for visitors that should total about 20,000 in each city at South Africa National Expo.

A Hundred Sights to See
The attraction? South Africa National Expo has been called the "Olympic Games" of business, science, and technology. It's a chance for South Africa to show off some of its many products and accomplishments. And for Chinese to expand their escalating interest in imports and joint ventures involving South Africa. Over 50 exposition booths in each city will showcase South Africa's offerings in areas ranging from agriculture to automobiles.
Exhibits at the trade fair will tell the story of the nation's progress in becoming an enviable trading partner for any nation that can grasp the opportunity. These exhibits are being arranged by South African leaders in commerce and government, and include samples of the state-of-the-art in capital equipment, agro-processing, metals, automotive, chemicals, information technology, cultural industries and government. Could there be a gold mine lurking about?
Chinese have already launched dozens of commercial projects in South Africa. A Chinese entrepreneur who is seeking new opportunities might well find treasure at this trade fair. And don't think that the fun will be limited to golden opportunities. There will be wine tasting, a gala dinner, investment seminar and business match-making.
Experts have stressed people-to-people contact, building win-win situations that will help both nations flourish in all aspects of life. What about you? Are you into commerce or exploration? Could there be new truths that you would like to have, along with your golden opportunities?
Please register in advance for one of these times and places for the Expo.
